EVENTS
STONE PUT
An event similar to the modern-day shot put in track and field events. A large stone called the Braemar Stone is thrown for distance. The men's stone weighs 16-22 pounds and the women's stone weighs 13-18 pounds. The furthest distant thrown wins the competition.
CABER TOSS
A long log varying in size is hoisted and tossed. The aim of the toss is to land the more narrow end on the ground with the thicker end pointing to the 12 o'clock position.
SCOTTISH HAMMER THROW
Similar to the modern day hammer throw, the Scottish version uses a round metal ball weighing between 16 and 22 poinds. The ball is attached to a shaft that is four feet long made of wood, plastic, or metal. The furthest distance the hammer is thrown wins the competition.
WEIGHT OVER THE BAR
A fifty six pound weight attached to a handle is thrown straight up over a bar. The highest distance cleared wins the competition.
SHEAF TOSS
A sheaf is a bundle of hay in a burlap sack. Using a pitchfork, competitors attempt to toss the sheaf over a bar. The highest distance cleared wins the competition.
STONE LIFT
TUG O' WAR
The only team even of the games, tug o' war is taken place between the competitors of each Tartan clan. This is traditionally the final event of the games.
